Association of Adventist Colleges and Universities Privacy Statement

This Privacy Statement explains how the Association of Adventist Colleges and Universities (AACU) collects, uses, and safeguards the personal information you provide to us. We reserve the right to append or modify this Privacy Statement at any time.

We Do Not Sell or Rent Your Personal Information

AACU does not sell or rent any personal data submitted by visitors to any of our websites to any third parties. We abide by all applicable laws concerning the release of your personal information. We collect information that you voluntarily provide us when you fill out an information request or an application form featured on our web site. The information provided by you may be shared with AACU member schools and/or support partners for use in contacting you by phone, text, mail, e-mail and/or other communication methods you provide about your higher education options, program(s) of interest, application status and/or other education information.

What Your Browser Sends Us

AACU does not collect your personally identifiable information when you visit one of our websites unless you choose to provide that information to us. We do collect information your browser sends us, such as, but not limited to, the following: IP (Internet Protocol) address, browser session, SSL encryption, web pages requested, date, time and URL (uniform resource locator). This information lets us know how you’re locating our sites and which pages on our site you’ve visited most often. All of this data is used to improve the navigation of the site and make it more useful for our visitors.

Analyzing Website Traffic

Google Analytics is a software that provides business insight and marketing trends without compromising the privacy of users on the web. Google Analytics is used by AACU to analyze traffic to this site. Google Analytics does not create individual profiles for visitors.

Aside Google Analytics, we also track visitors for the purpose of marketing campaigns. We may track Personal Identifiable Information (PII). The amount and type of information that AACU gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, we may ask names and email address in inquiry forms or we present a question about their interest on Adventist Colleges or Universities. In each case, AACU collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with AACU. AACU does not disclose PII other than as described below. And visitors can always refuse to supply PII, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain website-related activities.

AACU may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its websites. For instance, AACU may reveal how many downloads a particular file got, or say which pages are most popular. However, AACU does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.

AACU discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information (PII) only to those of its partners, contractors, and affiliated organizations that (i) need to know that information in order to process it on AACU’s behalf or to provide services available at AACU’s websites, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others. Some of those partners, contractors and affiliated organizations may be located outside of your home country; by using AACU’s websites, including adventistcolleges.org and www.adventistchoice.org/online, you consent to the transfer of such information to them. AACU will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and PII to anyone. Other than to its partners, contractors, and affiliated organizations, as described above, AACU discloses potentially personally-identifying and PII only when required to do so by law, or when AACU believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of AACU, third parties, or the public at large. If you are a registered user of a AACU website and have supplied your email address, AACU may occasionally send you an email to tell you about new features, solicit your feedback, or just keep you up to date with what’s going on with AACU and our products. AACU takes all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration, or destruction of potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information (PII).

Automatic Collection, Cookies & Web Beacons

AACU or our service providers or links to third party websites and social media widgets may use automatic collection technologies including cookies and web beacons that collect information about you or your visits for purposes to improve your web activities or to deliver targeted content to you. AACU does not provide personally-identifying information to these third parties and is not responsible or liable for nor do we endorse or control their activities. Use of third party links, advertisers, sites and/or widgets will be subject to the respective third party’s privacy policies and terms of service.

A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. AACU uses cookies to help AACU identify and track visitors, their usage of AACU website, and their website access preferences. AACU visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using AACU’s websites, with the drawback that certain features of AACU’s websites may not function properly without the aid of cookies.

Pages of this Website and any e-mails sent to you may contain web beacons. Web beacons (also referred to as clear gifs, pixel tags, and single-pixel gifs) are small electronic files that are embedded onto a web page or an email to document traffic and for website analytics without collecting any Personal Information, that, for example, allow us to count users who have visited webpages or opened our e-mails.

Sharing of Information

From time to time, individuals or companies under contract with AACU may have access to confidential information shared by you in the course of the service they provide to AACU, but those entities are not permitted to use or re-disclose that information for unauthorized purposes. No other entities are authorized to collect information through AACU websites.

Other than the previously stated conditions, AACU will not share information regarding your website usage or any other personal information without your consent unless required by compliance to law or in response to a law enforcement investigation or court order.
